Mobile Operating System Market Share Based Upon Web Usage

Since these statistics are based on mobile web usage, the numbers won’t necessarily match the exact market share based on physical handsets, but rather the handsets that people use to access the Web.
There are a couple of things to note here:
  • When looking at mobile web usage, the different parts of the world are led by either iOS or Symbian. Apple’s iOS leads mobile web usage in North America, Europe and Oceania, while Nokia’s Symbian leads in Africa, Asia and South America.
  • Worldwide, Symbian leads the pack. This is not surprising considering Nokia is the world’s largest maker of mobile phones. After Symbian comes iOS, Blackberry, Android, Sony Ericsson and Samsung, in that order.
  • Symbian’s weakest position by far is in North America.
  • Blackberry’s strongest region is North America, but it is still behind iOS there.
  • Android might be growing fast, but it’s still far from dominating any part of the world.

Nokia N8's Power Issue - Covered in Warranty

Do you own a Nokia N8 smartphone? Are you pleased with it? Or has it turned itself off and now refuses to reboot? If you answered yes to the last question, you could be in luck. Nokia has officially confirmed that a small number of N8 units have a problem with their power management system, forcing some to auto-switch off and not turn back on. Reportedly, “the fault in the power management stems from the way in which the engine component, which includes most of the technology in the phone excluding covers and batteries, in the N8 was being installed.”

Nokia X7-00 Symbian^3 Leaked - Video and Images

Nokia seems to be on a roller coaster ride with the latest Symbian^3, as we have already seen it pull out the N8, C7, C6-o1 and the upcoming E7. Is the company working on a fresh masterpiece that runs on the latest Symbian, which we hear has four speakers? Wondering where we are getting these fabulous ideas from?

Well, Nokia Saga has shed some light on the nitty gritty’s of the supposed Nokia X7-00. It elucidates that the device is running on the latest version of Symbian and is loaded with four stereo speakers
. Looks like this device could be the first music centric Symbian^3 smartphone coming from Nokia.

In fact, even gaming aficionados could leverage on its proposed audio brilliance. The Nokia Blog highlights that the video shows the X7 smoothly running Symbian^3 along with the game Need for Speed Shift. From what we deduce, it looks like the device has a accelerometer integrated, as orienting the handset to drive seems effortless.

Symbian^1 vs Symbian^3 - Video Comparison

I would like to introduce you 4 videos, featuring Nokia C6 (don't confuse it with C6-01), Nokia N8 and Nokia C7. The first one runs on Symbian^1 and it is a copy of 5800 with Qwerty keyboard. Nokia N8 and C7 run Symbian^3.

They are shown to you in real life - many apps installed, contacts, messaged, etc. So how do one benefit from getting new Symbian^3 in real everyday use?

I think the key thing is speed and fluidness, especially if you compare with Nokia devices with capacitive screen. In my opinion Symbian^3 has a room for improvement (actually a big room), but it is unbelievable how someone cannot se the change. I hope it will be obvious for everyone, who has seen this and I hope you will spread the word, showing to everyone, who is interested this post or just youtube videos.

Nokia C6-01 Symbian^3 SmartPhone Started Shipping

Today Nokia announced that another of the devices unveiled at this year’s Nokia world started shipping. Nokia C6-01 is the most affordable Symbian^3 handset to date and also the most compact one.
The most interesting part of the Nokia C6-01 however is its 3.2” AMOLED display. It’s the first publicly available unit to use the new Nokia ClearBlack technology that promises to improve the image quality significantly. Considering that the non-ClearBlack Nokia N8 and Nokia C7 were pretty good we have some high hopes for these new screens.
The display aside, Nokia C6-01 packs virtually the same feature set as the more expensive C7. You get an 8 megapixel camera (regrettably fixed-focus), capable of recording HD video, 680 MHz CPU with dedicated graphics accelerator and 256 MB of RAM.
Of course, some sacrifices were needed for the price tag to be achieved and in this case it’s the internal memory (only 340 MB and a 2GB card on the C6-01 vs 8GB on the C7) and the waistline (13.9mm vs 10.5mm).
It all sounds pretty decent actually considering the estimated retail price of 260 euro before taxes and subsidies.
Jo Harlow, head of smartphones said

“The Nokia C6-01 is designed for the consumer who wants to stay on top of their social life while on the go,” said “The new Symbian platform makes social networking fast and easy, while from the design point of view the Nokia C6-01 fits perfectly in your palm. Even the smallest of hands can reach every corner of the screen!”

Nokia C5 Touch Announced - An iN-Expensive Touch Symbian SmartPhone with WiFi and 5 MegaPixel Cam

http://conversations.nokia.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Nokia-C5-03-white150.jpgESPOO, Finland – Nokia today on 14th October, 2010 launches the latest C5 device, an inexpensive touchscreen smartphone with a couple of neat features that may well pique your interest if you want a new device that’s simple to use but covers all of the essentials for modern-day phones. What’s new with the C5-03? Find out more and feast your eyes on the pictures after the break.
The device has a 3.2-inch touch display and now features Wi-Fi, for fast internet access without the need or expense of a data plan. It also features a compass and assisted GPS for use with the latest version of the free Ovi Maps hands-free navigation service, now featuring public transport support and location sharing through social networks. Like many recent Nokias, you can put your most important contacts directly onto the homescreen so you can call, message or chat them up in just two taps. The C5 has a 5-megapixel camera with 4X digital zoom, but no flash.
It measures 105.8 mm x 51.0 mm x 13.8 mm (L x W x H) and weighs 93g – that makes it a similar size to the (imminently) forthcoming C6-01, and quite a bit smaller than the Nokia N8 or C7. It comes with up to 40MB of user memory and support for MicroSD cards up to 16GB. The talktime is quoted at 11.5 hours for GSM use and 4.5 hours using 3G. Standby time is estimated at 24-25 days. The operating system is Symbian^1 (aka. S60 5th edition touch-edition).
The Nokia C5-03 allows for easy email set-up – either an existing webmail or POP3 provider through Nokia messaging. For business users, there’s also the option of Mail for Exchange. If that isn’t enough, you’ll also find a quick setup wizard for Ovi Mail for users either new to email or who want a different account for their mobile messaging. As you’d expect, there’s also access to Ovi Music and the Ovi Store so you can fill your device with fresh content on a daily basis.

The two-tone colour scheme comes in both bold and restrained flavours, as the pictures show.
